On April 25, 2008 Actavis Totowa (Formerly known as Amide Pharmaceutical, Inc.) began a class 1 recall of Digitek known as digoxin tablets. A Class 1 recall involves situations in which there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious injury or death.
The recall by Actavis Totowa, LLC, a division of Actavis Group, is due to the possibility that tablets with double the appropriate thickness may have been commercially released and may contain twice the appropriate level of digoxin. The double dose of digoxin could result in digitalis toxicity, specifically with patients with renal failure. Digitalis toxicity can result in vomiting, dizziness, nausea, cardiac instability, low blood pressure and even death.
The medication was distributed by Mylan and UDL under the Bertek and UDL labels.
